Learning to cook and lovin’ the outdoors.

Hi everyone,

I am sure you all smelled the delicious smell of smoked meat today, as well as noticed the plumes of smoke that wafted into our building. (Working the kinks out TBD ;-) Today was the maiden voyage of the new smoker that I just received with a grant from The Liz Quackenbush Foundation.

For all of you newbies, Liz was a teacher at the ALC for 5 years, and she was passionate about experiential learning. She believed that in-risk kids lacked experiences that lead to hobbies, and that hobbies can make the difference in whether a person thrives in life, or merely survives.  Her zest for teaching and engaging personality made a lasting impression on everyone who came through our building. She was an easy laugher, she was fearless, and she valued integrity over everything.

Her friends started The Liz Quackenbush Foundation in her memory to support teachers who want to engage students in experiences that support learning, build community, and promote positivity and health.

If you have a great idea for an experiential learning project and would like to apply for a grant, or would like to donate, you can contact lizqfoundation@gmail.com

Working side by side with Liz made me a more creative teacher, a more adventurous person, and a more loyal friend.  I am excited to share food and create memories with all of you in the ALC community over smoked meats, in her memory and honor.  She would have loved this so much.
